The Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Division works with National Committees and UNICEF country offices to drive income growth. The Programme Donor Matching team of the Financial Services Unit serves as a broker between fundraisers and programme colleagues to encourage private sector donors – especially corporates, foundations and major donors – to provide UNICEF with the highest quality income. A range of services and products are provided, which ensure that funds are strategically allocated, that UNICEF is in a position to deliver the highest quality programme results, and that donors receive high-impact and meaningful donor reports that meet their expectations.

How can you make a difference?

The post is responsible for management oversight of the Programme Donor Matching team that reviews and manages earmarked contributions (Other Resources – OR) from the private sector donors ensuring that they are aligned with quality income principles and that the intent of donors and recipient offices is correctly captured in UNICEF financial system. One of the key tasks is to oversee the team and provide additional technical training on grants management of received contributions from National Committees, PSFR country offices and global private sector partners as well as streamline and document financial processes.

It is also responsible for overseeing a broad portfolio of statistical analyses for internal and external stakeholders; for monitoring the utilization of high-value grants; for producing data analyses for global reports such as the annual Report on Regular Resources, Schools for Africa and Schools for Asia report; and for monitoring Emergency appeals.

MAIN TASKS:

  • Oversees Programme Donor Matching team and provides additional technical training on grants management, streamline and document financial processes as required.
  • Monitors the utilization of high-value grants, grants expiry timelines with unspent balances and advices office to expedite utilization or request for grant extension before grant expires.
  • Manages the grant closure coordinating with NatComs to approve unspent balances to be reprogrammed to RR or repurposed for programs.
  • Reviews complex funding agreements to ensure adherence to UNICEF financial rules and regulations, policies and directives.
  • Provides guidance to COs/RSC, NatComs and PFP stakeholders, responds to NatComs and country offices general questions about UNICEF programmes and financial data including ad hoc revenue and expenditure analysis from fundraisers.
  • Oversees preparation and assures high quality of a range of financial donor reports for private sector contributions:
  • Annual report on Regular Resources,
  • Global Thematic and Thematic reports,
  • Annual Emergency Thematic reports.
  • Coordinates the team’s response to Emergency appeals, including monitoring private sector income, promoting quality funding, and preparing weekly income data during high-profile emergencies.
  • Any other ad hoc task as may be required by the manager.
  • DELIVERABLES:

  • Technical training on grants management provided to the team, financial processes documented.
  • Grant utilization and grant closure monitored monthly and unutilized balances reprogrammed as requested by donors.
  • Donor’s agreements reviewed and revenue recorded in compliance with UNICEF revenue management policy.
  • Guidance to COs/RSC, NatComs and PFP stakeholders provided on a timely basis.
  • All UNICEF reports that include private sector revenue data reviewed and reconciled.
  • Response to Emergency appeals monitored weekly.
  • ESTIMATED DURATION OF THE CONTRACT AND PROPOSAL:

  • Language Proficiency
  • Fluency in English required. Fluency in other UN languages considered an asset.

  • Technical Knowledge
  • Advanced university degree in marketing, economics, social sciences, fundraising, international relations, communication, law, business administration or equivalent. A first level university degree, with a combination of relevant academic qualifications and seven (7) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in data analysis and reporting, programme management, or similar.

    Experience from UNICEF or other development agencies of work in the field an asset.

    Understanding of ERP systems such as SAP highly desirable.

    ACTIVITIES

    Internal Communication

    National Committees for UNICEF are an integral part of UNICEF’s global organization. Currently there are 33 National Committees in the world, each established as an independent local non-governmental organization. Serving as the public face and dedicated voice of UNICEF in industrialized countries, National Committees work tirelessly to raise funds from the private sector, promote children’s rights and secure worldwide visibility for children threatened by poverty, disasters, armed conflict, abuse and exploitation. In 2009, the community of National Committees for UNICEF adopted a set of Principles of Good Governance. The objective of the Principles is to enable robust governance in National Committees as a condition for achieving results, by increasing effectiveness and efficiency, ethics, transparency and accountability, and ensuring a well-considered risk and control environment is in place.

    The Governance Team in UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division leads UNICEF’s strategic work on implementing the Principles and works with boards and executive management in each National Committee to convert the Principles into action and results.

    How can you make a difference?

    The position will provide research, writing and knowledge management support to the Governance Team on substantive governance projects to support the implementation of the Principles of Good Governance in National Committees for UNICEF.

    MAIN TASKS

  • Substantive research on governance best practices for the development of technical advisory products and updating of knowledge center in five areas of the Principles of Good Governance;
  • Information collection (from open source, research journals, subscriptions) and analysis;
  • Writing, editing and formatting newsletters, guidance papers, products and information notes;
  • Marketing of governance tools and resources to internal and external stakeholders;
  • Other specific projects, as determined.
  • Deliverables:

    Specific research, papers/products and activities for delivery to be discussed and agreed, including but not limited to:

    Contexte:

    Terre des hommes (Tdh) est la plus grande organisation suisse d’aide à l’enfance. Depuis 1960, Tdh contribue à bâtir un avenir meilleur pour les enfants démunis et leurs communautés grâce à des solutions innovantes et durables. Active dans plus de 45 pays, Tdh travaille avec des partenaires locaux et internationaux pour développer et mettre en place des projets sur le terrain qui permettent d’améliorer la vie quotidienne de plus de trois millions d’enfants et leurs proches, dans les domaines de la santé, de la protection et de l’urgence. Cet engagement est financé par des soutiens individuels et institutionnels, avec des coûts administratifs maintenus au minimum.

    Responsabilités principales:

    Sous la responsabilité du Directeur Général, le/la Directeur/trice du Département, membre du Conseil de Direction de Tdh, a la responsabilité de conduire les différentes activités du département Communication et Recherche de Fonds (50 personnes) et contribue activement au pilotage ainsi qu’aux développements stratégiques et organisationnels de l’ensemble de l’Institution.

    La Fondation Terre des hommes se trouve dans une phase de forte croissance et de professionnalisation en lien avec sa nouvelle stratégie, et vous arrivez dans ce contexte avec le défi de trouver l’équilibre entre la consolidation des processus et outils et une augmentation continue de nos recettes. Le département Communication et Recherche de Fonds contribue fortement à l’atteinte des ambitions de Tdh pour les enfants vulnérables dans le monde.

    Dans le cadre de la mise en œuvre du plan stratégique de Terre des hommes (Tdh), vous êtes responsable de l’évolution et du développement du département Communication et Recherche de Fonds, avec pour principal objectif un positionnement fort en tant que leader suisse de l’Aide à l’Enfance et une augmentation durable des fonds à libre disposition, en lien avec nos valeurs.

    Vous êtes responsable de la conduite de votre département. Vous êtes le garant du respect des politiques, règlements et processus en vigueur de la Fondation, dans toutes les activités stratégiques et opérationnelles déployées par vos collaborateurs/trices.

    Détails de la fonction:

    1. Vous assurez la coordination et la cohérence des secteurs sous votre responsabilité, à savoir la Communication, les Relations media, les Relations bénévolats, ainsi que la Recherche de fonds privée, avec l’appui d’une adjointe, qui gère en direct les secteurs Philanthropie, Grand public et Relations Donateurs. La Recherche de Fonds Institutionnels est gérée en collaboration avec les Opérations.

    2. Vous êtes responsable d’amener vos équipes vers une étape supplémentaire pour consolider et améliorer les acquis, en terme de quantité (recettes) et de qualité des livrables (campagnes, publications, appels aux dons, etc)

    3. Vous définissez les principales lignes stratégiques de votre département dans le cadre institutionnel défini et en assurez une mise en œuvre conforme aux décisions prises.

    4. Vous contribuez activement aux travaux et aux prises de décision du Conseil de Direction ainsi qu’à la définition des stratégies des autres départements de l’institution.

    5. Vous assumez le leadership lié à votre fonction en incarnant les Valeurs de Tdh et selon les principes du « secure base leadership ».

    6. Vous assurez l’encadrement, l’accompagnement et le soutien des collaboratrices et collaborateurs sous votre responsabilité, du recrutement à la fin des rapports de collaboration. Vous veillez aux bonnes pratiques d’un management respectueux des valeurs de Tdh.

    7. Vous coordonnez et gérez le processus budgétaire du Département Communication et Recherche de Fonds et veillez à sa correcte utilisation.

    8. Sur délégation du DG, vous représentez la Fondation Tdh auprès de différentes instances.

    9. Vous collaborez activement et de manière ouverte et constructive avec les autres départements.

    10. Vous développez des réseaux métiers dans le but de maintenir le département Communication et Recherche de Fonds en lien avec les réalités et pratiques d’autres organisations similaires (développement et « best practices »).

    11. Vous assurez le reporting synthétique et régulier du département Communication et Recherche de Fonds au Directeur général et aux Organes de gouvernance de l’Institution.

    Mission

    Le-la Fundraising Legacy Manager est rattaché-e à la cellule des Grands Donateurs, l’une des 3 cellules du « Pôle Fundraising » au sein du département Communication et Recherche de Fonds de MSF Suisse.     Responsabilités

    Les principales tâches du Fundraising Legacy Manager sont de :

    · Administrer les dossiers legs et héritages en Allemand, Français et Italien ;

    · Veiller à ce que tous les legs faits à MSF soient reçus et optimisés en toute sécurité ;

    · Cultiver la relation avec les testateurs, les fidéliser et assurer le suivi de la relation avec ce public-cible ;

    · Définir les processus et procédures liés aux héritages (acceptation, décisions judiciaires, etc.)Définir les objectives des recettes provenant des legs et le plan d’action annuel avec le responsable de la cellule grands donateurs ;

    · Collaborer avec les cellules qui s’occupent du grand public, à l’implémentation des activités du marketing pour la promotion des legs en Suisse ;

    · Concevoir et développer des outils et des processus pour optimiser la gestion des dossiers dans la base de données Collaborer au bon fonctionnement de la cellule Grands Donateurs et du département.

    Votre profil

    Formation

    • Diplôme universitaire en Droit, Management, Marketing ou titre jugé équivalen
    • Connaissance du droit de successions, un atout

    Expérience

    • Expérience préalable dans des fonctions similaires ou dans les domaines du marketing, de la communication, de la comptabilité ou du droit
    • Expérience préalable avec MSF ou une autre ONG/Organisation internationale est un plus

    Compétences

    UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Division drives UNICEF’s engagement with the private sector through global support in Geneva, regional support through Regional Support Centres (RSCs) or small units supporting seven Regional Offices, and through a network of 34 UNICEF National Committees.The Programme Coordination Unit within PFP enables colleagues across the organisation to leverage game changing partnerships with UNICEF’s prioritized strategic private sector partners through development of “Impact Content” and by strategically connecting the “field” with the private sector.

    How can you make a difference?

    The purpose of this consultancy job is to support Pillar 1 of UNICEF’s Programme Coordination strategy, which is “Impact Content”. Impact Content is defined as a new set of investment cases and Accelerator Propositions for the private sector. These describe how Business, Key Influencers, and other Impact Plan audiences can create sustainable impact through partnership with UNICEF. Impact content is UNICEF’s strategic work for children “translated” for the private sector audience, using language that is compelling, investment-focused and easily understandable by corporations, individuals, and foundations.

    The consultant(s) will provide writing services with a focus on tone and language, to produce compelling, quality products for Impact Content. It includes investment cases for each of the 5 Goal Areas of UNICEF’s Strategic Plan including an overview of each Goal and modular content focusing on specific areas of the Goal (e.g. quality education).

    Main Tasks:

    In this context, the Programme Coordination team is seeking one or more independent consultants to provide creative writing services to produce compelling, quality products, that can be used to engage the private sector and secure partnerships and quality income. The scope of the consultancy will include writing impact content in the following categories:

  • investment cases on UNICEF Strategic Plan goal areas (e.g. Education);
  • modular content that provides additional information on key themes of a particular goal area (e.g. skills development under the Education goal).
  • The Investment cases and modular content will need to resonate across all four audiences of the private sector (Business, high net worth individuals, foundations and individuals).

    Deliverables:

    Timeline: 01 November – 31 December 2018 (tentatively)

    Impact content: investment cases, modular content, and strategic propositions

  • Investment case brochure of between 8-12 pages; request sample.
  • For each investment case, between 2-4 related “deep dives” into sub-themes of 4 pages each.
  • Report to:

    The consultant will report to the Programme Specialist in the Programme Coordination Unit, based in Geneva, Switzerland.

    Work Place:

    The assignment is home-based with no expected travel.

    To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree in international development, marketing, or social sciences A first level university degree in combination with two (2) years additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience as a writer and with significant experience in writing and/or marketing for the private sector.
  • Extensive experience writing human interest materials, including the ability to rewrite initial content by audience.
  • Track record of writing for private sector audiences, including fundraising proposals, reports and knowledge products
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex international development concepts for a broad audience of public and private sector donors.
  • Exceptional English writing skills.
  • Experience in living and working in a development context, is a plus.
