The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is a public institution with the mandate to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations internationally and nationally through excellence in research, services, and teaching and training.
The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of the Swiss TPH conducts consultancy, project management, training and applied research work in international and global health.

The department is seeking applications for the following new position (80%-100%) based in Basel:

IT Product Manager

with expertise in open source solutions and/or health information systems

Within our digital health portfolio, we emphasise health technology management, health information systems and telemedicine applications. Our work is integrated in a multidisciplinary team with the overall aim to strengthen health systems in international settings*.*

We aim at identifying a candidate with a strong interest and proven experience on health information systems and public health, especially in low and middle income countries (LMICs).

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to:

  • Further consolidate and develop our expertise in health information systems in LMICs

  • Support development of communication products for software solutions

  • Develop training material for the solutions

  • Elaborate requirements and establish technical documentation

  • Technical troubleshooting support and act as interface between system users and development team

  • Manage open source tools to support product releases (source code, documentation updates, etc.)

  • Manage external IT vendors (contract management, coordination of software development cycle, etc.)

  • Undertake feasibility studies for implementing software solutions

  • Interacting with regional and international groups on digital health and public health informatics

  • Interact with partners at different levels (Ministries, software development teams, etc.) to undertake product promotion activities

    To best fit into our active, interdisciplinary team we ask for the following requirements:

  • Master or higher level in Engineering, IT, information systems or related subjects.
    A postgraduate level is an asset.

  • At least 5 years hands on software development experience, including open source solutions

  • At least 2 years experience in client interfacing role and experience of different roles involved in the software development lifecycle

  • Knowledge of open source tools and new technological trends and digital health ideally demonstrated through work experience of at least 2 years with open source technologies

  • Proactive learner of new tools (GitHub, Jira, Confluence, etc.), technologies (MS.Net, SQL server, Android, Java, etc.) and trends

  • Excellent command of French and English. German is an asset but not a requirement.

  • Willingness and availability to travel to LMIC countries (3 to 5 times per year).

    Furthermore we expect a high level of commitment and flexibility, good communication skills, strong spirit of team work, capacity to take initiative and ability to work with professionals in multi-cultural contexts.

Executive Director (80-100%)

for our head office in Berne

Mission:

A strong leader, the executive director is responsible for the implementation of VSF-Suisse’s vision, strategy and goals as well as for the further development of the organisation. In close cooperation with the Board of Directors, he/she manages the head office in Berne and the VSF-Suisse country offices in Africa.

Tasks

  • Overall management and responsibility of the organization
  • In close cooperation with the Board of Directors and the Head of Programmes, design of the strategy of VSF-Suisse and responsibility for its implementation
  • Financial supervision
  • Monitoring communication and fundraising
  • Staff management and development, responsibility for the safety of employees in the field
  • Representation of the organisation vis-à-vis partners, donors and the public

Requirements:

The executive director has a proofed management experience, extensive knowledge and experience in development cooperation and humanitarian aid, as well as a strong ability to communicate with employees, partners, donors and the public.

  • University degree in social, veterinary or agricultural sciences or in another relevant field, preferably with management training.
  • Solid management experience, preferably in the NPO/NGO area
  • Strong skills in leadership and in human resource development
  • Extensive experience in financial management
  • Skilled communicator and negotiator
  • Experience in project management in development cooperation and humanitarian aid, preferably in an African context
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Willingness to travel regularly to our project countries
  • Mother tongue German, French or English with very good knowledge of the other two languages
  • Swiss work permit

For our Operations Middle East and North Africa Division, we are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to be our next:

Administrative Assistant (100%)

Location: Geneva

Starting date: 1st December 2018 or as soon as possible

Duration: unlimited

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Head and Deputy Head of Division, the administrative assistant is responsible for the administrative aspects of the day to day functioning of the division. This includes:

• Organize overall logistics support for the Division meetings, including acting as Secretary for weekly and other staff meetings

• Act as personal assistant to the Head of Division by managing communications between the Head of Division and external stakeholders and by organizing travel and meetings

• Coordinate and support hiring and induction of incoming staff in collaboration with HR

• Ensure the Division’s compliance of all DCAF policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to administration and human resources

YOUR EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position

• Excellent administrative and organisational skills

• Fluent in English and French

• Ability to proactively plan and implement work, including managing multiple priorities

• Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience of working as part of an international team

• Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is required
