What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.


The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) considers the information it produces or receives as one of the key assets of the institution. It enables the ICRC to fulfil its mandate in an optimal manner by ensuring the availability and sustainability of ICRC knowledge.

A well-functioning information management system is, however, increasingly challenging due to the multiple carriers and formats in which information is created, shared and stored, the mass of information produced and circulated as well as the evolving technologies tools used in information management.

The purpose of the post is to translate complex ideas and concepts linked to information management -including ICRC rules, guidelines and policies on archives and information management- into creative and intelligible products, easy to consume for an internal audience, enhancing thereby the ICRC’s archives and information management. The post thus also accompanies changes linked to the evolving information environment and technology as well as to the proper use of tools and platforms.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Analyzes, organizes, streamlines and control the quality of the different reference texts produced by the AIM Division on the relevant platforms (wiki, intranet, etc) keeping in mind one single point of entry and users’ perspectives.
  • Uses specialized information visualization tools and creates dynamic innovative illustrative digital content, products and displays of quantitative and qualitative information, in the form of infographics, motion graphics, animations charts, graphs, diagrams, scripts, illustrations, maps and PowerPoint presentations so as to promote awareness of reference texts and information management rules, practice and tools.
  • Through the techniques of mind mapping and scribing, translates outputs of internal meetings and brainstorming sessions into visually synthetized aids, either digitally or on whiteboards/paper boards.
  • Is responsible for all phases of production, including scheduling, design, layout, production, and delivery.
  • When required, assists the management team in writing reference texts, with a view to maintaining a consistent, logical and coherent content and design between the different texts.
  • Monitors various statistics for the purpose of formulating recommendations to the management team
  • Prepares internal presentations for meetings and sessions and presents them.
  • Is responsible for the design and update of AIM’s intranet and web pages
  • Collects and shares information to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the internal and external environment and humanitarian trends and responses in information management.

Internally, the post interacts with staff from other units in AIM and on the field, UX design staff and information management relays, both at HQ and on the field. More broadly, it interacts with all ICRC staff that need to manage their information.

Certifications / Education required

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in communication, creative thinking, UX design or similar fields.
  • Very good command of English and French (written and oral).
  • Very good knowledge of graphic/design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and similar tools.

Professional Experience required

  • Confirmed experience in designing training or awareness products.
  • Experience in project management is an asset.
